While studying my A levels, I began learning to play the cello, with Olive Goodborn, who awoke in me a desire to make music.
I changed cello teachers when I went away to university. My new teacher was, and remains, Janet Tinbergen. She has helped me to develop my technique and love of the instrument. Although I am by no means a good musician, I get a great deal of pleasure from playing. Janet also introduced me to Elisabeth Walker, who, since then, has been teaching me the Alexander Technique, which has helped my cello playing, my general health and well-being and my confidence. In my spare time, I continued my musical interests, including making arrangements of music to play at the Oxford Music Festival with aid of the music notation program Sibelius.
