My mum introduced me to classical music at the age of 12 by buying me a cassette tape of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherazade. Classical music quickly became and has continued to be a passionate interest of mine. I spend a great deal of my leisure time listening to classical music and opera in recordings and on BBC Radio 3.
I continued developing my love of classical music at school and, to aid me in this, asked to be taught to read music. My teacher, Mair Shankster, was very good and took me from knowing nothing about reading music to Grade 8 Theory of Music.
