The following update was received from the Action Group Against Dovesdale Incinerator on 5th July 2010. The development trust ask for your support in this crucial campaign.

“In just a few weeks, this campaign has exploded throughout the communities of Stonehouse, Larkhall, Netherburn, Strathaven, Ashgill, Netherburn, Blackwood, Kirkmuirhill, Lesmahagow, Boghead, Auchenheath, Carluke, Lanark, Overtown, Law, Glassford, Sandford, the Clyde Valley, and continues to grow daily. Communities have turned out in their hundreds at events and meetings to voice their anger and concerns over this development.

The Action Group Against Dovesdale Incinerator is in strong objection to the planned proposal of an industrial scale Scotgen recycling and 'waste to energy' gasification facility at Dovesdale Farm, Carlisle Road, Stonehouse, ML9 3PR. The local community are extremely angry about this proposal, and rapid activism has sprung up in the last few weeks throughout, to challenge this development. Great concern is held by the community about the obvious inappropriateness of this site for such an industrial plant, as well as the negative impacts this development will bring to the area.

The scoping report for the planning application can be found at

This plant will be two times the size of a football pitch, have industrial chimneys, create 77 plus more lorries on the road daily, release dangerous toxins into the air far and wide beyond Stonehouse, scar the landscape, destroy precious green space and seriously impact local wildlife and areas of important environmental protection in the area.

Everybody in our communities will be affected by this, and this Action Group has been formed as a call to arms for all throughout the district to join together to fight this extremely irresponsible and ill thought out proposal.

Your support in this cause would be very much appreciated.
